To perform this procedure always I usually use the CCleaner program, a tool that at the same time cleaning your Windows registry helps you to carry out other maintenance tasks. CCleaner has a fully functional free version of which we can get here and whose installation is typical in Windows: basically hit «next» or «next». Once we have installed the program, we go to the "registry" tab and as it is we press the "Search for problems" button after which it will start looking for problems in our Windows registry.
