Troll

Troll concept

What is a Troll on the Internet?

A Troll, or troll in Spanish, is a definition that is used as part of internet slang to refer to a person who makes provocative comments, who seeks to create controversy or diverting attention from a topic in order to capture looks or because, basically, it wants to cause some annoyance. It is a rather negative figure whose action also has its own verb: "trolling."

Its presence is common in forums and social networks, in all those places of the network where opinions are expressed and topics can be discussed. His role, despite everything, is never far from provocation and controversial situations. Wherever there is a troll, there will be a discussion and some kind of discomfort, as well as comments that are born as a result of the debate it generates, even when it is limited to throwing nonsense.

Due to the anonymity that the Internet allows, the figure of the troll is quite frequent. For many, trolling is a way of having fun on the network of networks; even though sometimes they can generate a trail of discussions and problems that are quite dangerous for the status of any website where they move.

In reality, due to its behavior, its action is something forbidden on many websites, mainly those with a forum system. In these places, where well-being is stressed in order to have a healthy community, the appearance of trolls can jeopardize the status of the site in question. Therefore, for those responsible for a website it can also be an obstacle.

What is a Troll for

A Troll serves to create problems. Its purpose is nothing more than low level debate, change the subject, create controversy and even germinate anger if necessary. A priori, it is a figure that only seems to bring bad consequences; despite everything, there are those who take advantage of it for certain purposes.

Some websites take advantage of the controversies caused by trolls to get a greater influx of visits and an increase in activity. By creating discussions, they encourage users to comment and respond, which results in more movement on the web and their statistics increase.

It is not a healthy practice, but it is more used than is usually thought.
