How to install WordPress locally step by step with Laragon

Once you have downloaded Laragon from its website (laragon.org) you must install it on your computer.

Install Laragon it is as simple as installing any other type of program on your PC.

You will not get any inconvenience to activate it.

This local development environment has a fairly simple interface to which you end up getting used to after a while.

Laragon offers two ways to install WordPress locally:

  1. Form direct (You will only have to click a couple of times and Laragon himself takes care of downloading WordPress and others)
  2. Form Handbook (with steps quite similar to the ones we follow to install WordPress locally using XAMPP).

This time we will show you how to install WordPress on your computer using the direct way.

Installing WordPress on your computer using the direct way with Laragon

This is the easiest way to have WordPress on your computer using Laragon.

First we make sure that you have installed Laragon on your computer correctly.

You should see the unmistakable blue elephant icon on your Windows desktop.

In case you don't see it, try to search for it using the win search bar and writing laragon in it:

The interface

As we mentioned at the beginning:

The interface of this development environment is quite simple.

When you run it you find a screen like this:

Laragon interface

Preparing everything for installation

With Laragon running the next step is start all services.

To start the essential services and utilities to be able to install WordPress, you just have to press the button:

Start All

(It's the button with the green arrow on the left)

That button executes Apache and MySQL, which as you already know are necessary to install WordPress.

Creating a local WordPress website

When Apache and MySQL are running on your Laragon you must select the option that says: "menu”.

You have to pay close attention because not a button.

It is an option that you find at the top next to the blue elephant logo.

Now, depending on whether you have installed Laragon in Spanish or in another language, the description of the following may vary a bit, the fact is that you can click on the option that says:

Quick website creation

And then select the option:

WordPress

Quick website creation

What happens at this point is that Laragon shows you a bar where you have to write the name of your project.

You can use whatever name is.

When you write the name that you want your WordPress test environment to take locally, press Ok.

Here Laragon takes care of downloading WordPress directly from the official website (you will not have to download anything, or install anything manually as we do in other local environments such as the popular XAMPP).

Setting up the local web

Once Laragon has downloaded WordPress and completed certain configurations (this is something that you will know right at the moment when the download progress bars are completely filled with green) the url address of your test website will appear there in the interface:

Click on the address url address (The urls that Laragon generates are similar to this: WordPressLocal.Test in other words: they all have the extension .Test).

The browser that you use by default on your computer will open.

Here you will see the WordPress installation screen:

  • You select the language that you intend to use in the installation of your local environment
  • Click on the option continue
  • Enter the database information (you give it the name you want)
  • You click on install and what will happen is that WordPress will be installed
  • The next thing is to select a username and password to enter your local WordPress website from / wp-admin
  • Ready

Installing WordPress locally using this tool is quite simple, especially if you follow the tutorial step by step, but this is just the beginning.
