Sims 4 is a life simulator game developed by EA and one of the most popular games of its genre. The Sims had a shaky audience: from excessive popularity to bad gameplay. However, at some point in the game, hundreds of Sims 4 players play.

Even though it's one of the biggest games EA has released, it seems like Sims 4 has some issues. One of the issues that many people are concerned about is the “video card error” that they encounter while trying to launch the game or at any phase. This post explains all the possible causes of this problem and how to fix them.

However, when trying to play The Sims 4, I get a video card error:

“The Sims 4 cannot work with a graphics card on this system. Make sure the graphics card meets the minimum specifications and the latest graphics drivers are installed ”.

There are several reasons for this error:

  • Problem with Origin in the game
  • Your graphics drivers are out of date
  • Do you have a system with two video cards?
  • Your card does not meet the minimum requirements of the game

Disable Origin in-game

The Origin feature is called Origin in the game. You can communicate with friends in the game, stream your gameplay, or access the Internet browser.

Unfortunately, this feature can also cause problems. Thus, when fixing game issues, it may be important to disable Origin in-game.

You can disable it for all games or just for a specific game.

Absolutely disable Origin in the game

  • open origin
  • Click on Origin – Application Settings – Origin Games.
  • Put the switch to "off".

Disable Origin in-game for a specific game.

  • open origin
  • Click on My Game Library
  • Right-click on the game for which you want to disable Origin in-game.
  • Select game properties
  • Uncheck the box with the option Enable in-game origin to…

  • Right-click on the Sims 4 shortcut or exe file and select Properties.
  • Select the "Compatibility" tab.
  • Click on Run this program in compatibility mode for the option.
  • Then select Windows 8 from the Operating System dropdown menu.
  • Select the Apply option to store your settings.
  • Click OK to close the window.

Run in windowed mode

As mentioned in the reasons, there are cases where Sims 4 does not work in full screen mode. This may be due to internal parameters or an external factor that cannot be set. Usually after such a weird script, Sims 4 releases an update that fixes the problem. During the patch installation, you can try running the game in windowed mode and see if it works. We found many examples when the problem was completely resolved.

Here we will see how to run the game in windowed mode using the GeForce Experience application.

  • Launch the GeForce Experience app and find Sims 4 in the game list.
  • Now look for the wrench icon that allows users to access custom settings. Click here.
  • Now change the display mode to a window and lower the resolution. Save the changes and exit.
  • Restart your computer and see if the issue is resolved.
