Minecraft and Twitch are among the most popular sandbox video games and streaming platforms. However, if you use the Twitch client to install Minecraft, you may encounter the Twitch plugin installation error and the Minecraft installation error.

This error can occur due to a crash in the Twitch client or incorrect Twitch settings for add-ons and Minecraft.

Run Twitch as administrator

For security reasons, Windows has a policy that if an application that is not running as administrator is not the primary application, they cannot communicate with each other. This may prevent certain parts of the Twitch app from working as they should, such as Push to Talk (PTT) and the in-game overlay.

If you're having problems, you may be running your game as an administrator, but not the Twitch app. The Twitch app must be running as an administrator for these features to work properly. It is relatively easy to fix this problem.

  • In the Twitch app, click the ≡ icon and then select File from the menu options.
  • Then click on the Settings option.
  • This will open your configuration options. Click on the General option.
  • Scroll down to RUN TWITCH AS ADMINISTRATOR and make sure it is turned on (purple). Then restart the Twitch app.

Please note that not all games have overlays. Only games supported today will have overlays. This list is constantly updated. Therefore, the game may not be compatible today, but it may be compatible in the future.

Uninstall and reinstall Twitch

Increased Java memory allocation

  • Go to File > Settings and open Minecraft.
  • Go to Java Settings > Maximum Memory Allocation.
  • Set it to 7500 MB and click OK to save the changes.
  • Then go back to File > Settings and open Add-ons.
  • Set the backup space to 10 MB.
  • Save your changes and restart the Twitch client.

The plugin installation error may occur if the Twitch client is configured incorrectly. Several users reported that changing the allocated memory size and backup settings of the plugin helped them fix the issue.
