Before updating:

  1. Verify that you do not have the automatic WordPress update option enabled.
  2. Make a manual backup! Updates are always tested by us and by BETA testers but we cannot guarantee that there will be no problems with some specific environments. Read more about how to backup your site here.
  3. Before upgrading, read the documentation for the new version., including any blog posts, change logs and community announcements, when it is possible. These may include instructions and information to help you decide whether to update now or wait. You can check the plugin change logs here (core) and here (Pro).
  4. Check if your plugins for Elementor are compatible with Elementor. You may need to check with the plugin developers for more information. Plugin developers are contacted weeks before each update to ensure they can test their plugins for compatibility with Elementor. Sometimes, however, the plugins are still not supported when the update is released.
  5. Test the update on a staging site first, before updating your live production site. There are several options for using a staging site.

to. The best option is when a host has a test site already available to you, as this will very closely duplicate the exact system setup of your live site. Ask your host if this is available to you. If so, you will need to temporarily deactivate your Elementor Pro license from the live site to activate it on the trial site, unless you have multiple licenses available on your Plus or Expert plan. If your host doesn't offer you a trial site, there are other options, and although the system settings won't be exactly the same as your live site, they will be very similar.

yes. Another option is to create a test site on your own computer (this is called localhost) using a solution like Local by steering wheel. When creating a test website using a local machine, Elementor Pro does not register as an installation, which means you can run Elementor Pro on your local machine and on your online website at the same time. This works on .local, .dev, and .test domains.

    C. As an alternative to localhost, you can use an external staging site service like WP Stagecoach or WP-Staging.

Problems after updating your staging site:

  1. Enable safe mode. If the problem goes away, you know that the problem is related to your theme or one of its plugins. At that point, you can debug Safe Mode to correct the problem. This may involve contacting the developers of the plugin or theme for assistance.
También pruebe su sitio en una incognito browser to make sure your cache isn't taking over.
  3. Contact Elementor support if any bugs appear to be strictly Elementor related.
  4. Once everything is working fine on your staging site, only then should you update your live production site. Follow these same procedures if something goes wrong there.
  5. Of course, if all else fails, if you created a backup before upgrading, you can always restore from your backup to immediately return to the way it worked before updating.

Common scenarios:

I don't see any notification to update to the latest version

There are several ways to force the availability of the latest update.

  • Please see «Panel> Updates"and click Check again button. Usually this will allow you to have the latest version.
  • If that didn't work, you can try disabling your plugins (in addition to Elementor and Elementor Pro) temporarily, wait a few minutes, and then check if the latest versions are available for update. Once you get the update, you can reactivate the plugins.
  • Of course, if neither works, you always have the possibility to download the latest version of Elementor Core through our website or from wordpress.com, and you can download the latest version of Elementor Pro through your account in my.elementor.com. Once downloaded, simply upload it to "Plugins" on your WordPress Dashboard (after removing the old version).

I get an error message when I try to update Elementor Pro

Some update errors occur when you try to update Elementor or Elementor Pro on your local host installation. A possible solution can be found by installing the plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/fix-windows-compatibility/

When you get an error message while updating Elementor Pro, you need to upload the latest version through your account at my.elementor.com, luego cárguelo en «Complementos» en su Tablero de WordPress.

We have fixes for some of these error messages in this guide that will prevent you from having to load Elementor Pro manually after every update.

Note: To avoid cheating, please disable your caching and optimization plugins before updating Elementor or Elementor Pro. Also note that some cache servers may affect the Elementor and Elementor Pro update process. This is rare but can happen. You may need to ask your host to temporarily disable the server cache so you can run the update.

My layout has been lost since the last update

Sometimes, just click on the » Regenerate CSS«And / or to change the CSS printing method> Internal embedding in the Elementor settings and tools on your WordPress Dashboard.

Elementor keeps loading or not working properly since I updated the plugin

Plugin conflicts are a common thing in WordPress. We cannot guarantee that our plugin will work well with all plugins installed on WordPress (50,000+), so if you are unable to edit or if you experience any issues after an update, please try the following troubleshooting tips: https: / /docs.elementor .com / article / 184-can't-edit-with-elementor

If you were unable to resolve the problem with the above-mentioned troubleshooting procedure, you can contact us for further assistance. If your issue is due to a plugin conflict, please let us know and also report the issue to the conflicting plugin support team as they will likely need to update their plugin themselves.

Tip: Known bugs related to specific versions can be found here.

Note: If you don't want to fix the problem by disabling your plugins and switching to a default WordPress theme or following any of the troubleshooting steps above, you can temporarily revert the plugin to «Elementor> Tools> Version Control«In your WordPress dashboard. Please note that this rollback feature is a last resort and while it is a useful tool for a quick fix, it is not a permanent solution. At some point, in order to update, you will need to ensure that all troubleshooting has been followed and that the fixes are in place. Therefore, it is best to rule out other issues such as caching problems (including server cache) and plugin conflicts before rolling back.
