A completely new adaptation
Villeneuve stressed that the challenge he had with Blade Runner 2049 It was very different from what he faced Dune. In the first place, because the latter is not the continuation of any other film, but a complete re-adaptation of Herbert's work.
“It is an epic and philosophical adventure. The novel already had an enormous wealth of ideas and potential. I think it can be very inspiring for the new generations ”, he declared.
It was then that the director clarified that there will be a sequel to Dune, since his work divided the first installment of the literary saga into 2 parts. In this way, he makes his first big difference about what David Lynch did in the 1980s.
“We decided to split into 2 from the beginning. The novel is very rich in plots and nuances. Its complexity made us see it necessary (…) to divide ourselves into 2, although conceiving it as one (…) It is a unique journey, only in 2 parts ”, he explained.
Dune and a barren bud
Something that surprised in the first trailer of Dune It was those impressive shots that captured the vastness of the desert. “It was essential to shoot in the desert and structure the whole plot around something real, not a green color scheme. It was one of the conditions that I set from the beginning of the project, I wanted to record in natural settings. The title evokes the dunes, I needed them to be real, to be inspired by something concrete, ”he said.
One of the actors in the film Oscar Isaac, talked about what it was like to shoot in these kinds of settings. Clearly, it made a huge impact on the actor, who is increasingly in demand for major Hollywood productions.
"Shooting in the desert was overwhelming, I had the feeling of being on an alien planet (...)," he said.
Equally, Jason momoa, who plays Duncan Idaho, noted that this film has a particular and exceptional beauty. That is why, he appreciated the opportunity to have been part of the cast.
"Of everything I've done before, nothing has the beauty that Dune has, I can't be more than grateful," he commented.
