Updated the Discord icon in the systray to show the red "mentioned" icon when there are new messages. Whatever you do, you can't get rid of this point permanently. Regardless, you can hide it by closing an existing direct message with a friend, but the red dot will return after 2-3 seconds. At the same time, you click on each open discussion and notice that none of them show an unread badge. But the red dot is still there. Congratulations, you are on the correct page, we will show you some methods you can use to erase the red dot from Discord. Go!

The new update for Discord has updated the Discord icon in the taskbar to show the red "mentioned" icon when there are new messages and not when it is shown only for messages in which it has been mentioned. I did not find this change in the changelog, which makes me think it is a bug or not mentioned change.

Hide Discord's red dot in Windows

  1. Right-click on your taskbar and then click on the taskbar settings.
  2. Power Use small buttons on the taskbar.
  3. This reduces the size of your taskbar, but also hides the red dot in front of your Discord icon.

Check your old notifications.

Group / channel old message notifications

The red dot badge is generally displayed when you receive a notification of an unread message. Make sure you have seen all the messages, not just the latest, but also the old ones. Sometimes you forget to check your notification, but checking old recorded messages can fix your problem. Test it!

At the same time, someone recently added you to a group or channel and there was no conversation, but you can't read the story. There is no unread notification about this group / channel, you have to right click on the message and click Mark as read, this discussion group / channel will disappear. But to save time if you have multiple channels, you can right-click the server icon in the left column and click "Mark as read". You can also enable "Server muted" on servers for which you do not want to receive all notifications.

Disable it in Discord settings.

Here's a handy method in Discord settings that makes it disappear permanently. To disable the red dot:

  1. Launch the Discord app and log into your account.
  2. Click on the "Settings" gearbox next to your username in the lower left corner of the screen.
  3. In the left pane, click the Notifications option.
  4. Click the toggle switch in front of Enable unread message badge to disable it.
  5. Click the "X" at the top right of the screen to close Discord.
  6. Restart Discord and check if the problem persists.

CONCLUSION

The red dot is now permanently disabled, but this method also prevents you from noticing unread messages, please turn on the "Unread Message Badge" if you want to use the red dot feature.
