Realtek is a Chinese electronic chip manufacturer and currently manufactures and markets integrated circuits for communication networks, computer peripherals and multimedia integrated circuits. Most motherboard manufacturers purchase integrated circuits for various computer components. One of these components could be audio chips. Audio chips need the latest drivers for it to work properly.

Sometimes the operating system installs drivers automatically, but in some cases they must be downloaded and installed manually. This can be a hindrance for some users because these drivers are not available in Windows update and must be downloaded manually. In this way, this post will teach you the easiest way to download and install these drivers on your computer.

Download and reinstall Realtek HD Audio Manager

Before downloading new drivers, uninstall all current drivers. To avoid duplication clashes between multiple drivers, you should also uninstall duplicate audio drivers.

To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Start button and go to Device Manager.
  2. Expand the sound, video, and game controllers from the Device Manager listing.
  3. Locate Realtek High Definition Audio driver below.
  4. Right-click and select Uninstall Device from the drop-down menu.
  5. Under Delete driver for this device, select the option and click the Uninstall button.
  6. Now go to the Views tab and click on Show hidden devices from the drop down menu.
  7. Now look for duplicate audio drivers, if available. Right click and select Uninstall.
  8. Restart the system.

Update Realtek HD Audio Drivers

Updating Realtek HD Audio Manager should be easy. Click the Start button, then type "Device Manager" and click Device Manager when it appears.

Then click the arrow next to the audio inputs and outputs to display a list of your audio devices. You should see something like “Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)”. Right-click and select Update Driver (Windows should regularly update this driver automatically, but it has been known not to work).

To reinstall your driver, right-click Device Manager, click Uninstall Device, and then restart your computer.

If Realtek is updated, this is good news, but another reservation is that the latest driver is not always the best, and you may want to select a different version of the driver. Or sometimes the latest drivers provided by your motherboard are not the latest available and you may not be getting the best sound quality.
