It is very interesting to understand Mark's thought process in the medium term and to learn from his domination strategy for a certain niche, things that can undoubtedly be applied on another scale.
- This vision assumes that much of this will be based on AR, because that type of device will always be on and always in front of your eyes.
- The platform will be more natural to use than a mobile phone, because it will use our natural vision and gestures. Commands triggered by facial expressions and hand movements will be very common.
- It will be a technology -in the medium term- much cheaper, because once we get to a good VR / AR system, we will never again need to buy other phones or TVs or many other physical objects, those "objects" will only be Apps in the store digital.
- Facebook wants to have a dominant position in this new VR world, it can only achieve this by building both: the platform and the Apps.
- If they only make the Apps, they will be in the same position of vulnerability as now, but if they only make the platform, they will be at an even more disadvantage.
- His strategy is not only to be the dominant force once the world is ready for VR, but also to hasten the arrival of that moment.
- Mark clarifies that this line of thinking is also his motivation to buy other companies early and invest in them rather than trying to outperform and reduce risks later by waiting for them to develop.
- It is proposed to create Apps / Experiences, Platform / Services and Equipment / Systems in that order, although Mark clarifies that Apple has been tremendously successful doing just the opposite.
Then the rest of the document exposes more technical cases, but what I wanted to share with you is this idea:
Planning long-term, anticipating changes, and preparing ahead of time is a proven strategy for success.
If you have children between the ages of 12 and 15 and like the digital world, learning as much as possible about AR / VR platforms guarantees you a position of advantage within 5 years when this new revolution begins.
