Users get error 412 when trying to connect to Spotify. The error is: “It is possible that a firewall is blocking Spotify. Please update your firewall to allow Spotify.”

Error 412 means “Precondition Failed”, so I suggest you delete all cookies and form data stored in your browser. Then connect to Facebook. While you're still logged in, open Spotify. Sign in to Spotify.

This error usually happens when an incorrect or malformed token is transferred through the API. It could be Spotify, which modifies its system, or most likely Facebook, which modifies your login in the API. If the problem persists, more information may be required.

How to fix Spotify error 412:

Sign in with a username instead of an email / Facebook.

In most cases, you can easily fix this particular problem by using your username (instead of your Facebook account or email address when you log in to your account).

Several concerned users announced that the problem had not recurred and that they could log in regularly if they tried to use their username in the box.

Other affected users indicated that they were able to fix the issue by logging into another account, logging out, and then logging back into the account that previously failed.

Try these two tactics and move on to the next method if you still encounter the 412 error when trying to connect to Spotify.

Disable the wireless router firewall

To fix Spotify error 412, you can disable router firewalls by connecting to your router's management interface and looking for a firewall section. Management interfaces vary by manufacturer and model, so your wireless router may not have a firewall section. If so, click this section and disable the firewall.

Forward a port. If the firewall prevents an external computer from connecting to your internal client, you must forward a port to your client.

Find your internal IP address.

Click “Start -> Run…” and type “cmd” in the field. When the command line appears, type "ipconfig" and press "Enter." Find your IP address in the statistics that will print.
