From these dynamics, you will learn more about what they mean and to understand more about their origin and differences what's between Windows 10 N and KN. Since it is likely that on some occasion we have read about them, without knowing very well what they are.
Due to the rules that the European Commission introduced in 2004, affecting the demands of integration of multimedia components in Windows, Microsoft was forced to take action. Later, the company created a new distribution of the operating system, which is what we know as Windows 10 N. It also exists in previous versions of the operating system.
These versions are intended for some markets in Europe, which are the N version. While KN, are those that have Korea as a destination. Even though they have some differences in terms of the normal version of the operating system, which we are going to talk about below, so that we know more precisely what each of these versions means.
Differences Windows 10 N / KN and Windows 10
As we have already mentioned, the differences mainly impact multimedia tools. They are the ones who have been affected by this regulation in Europe. The reality is that Windows 10 N is equivalent to normal Windows 10, like the one we have installed on our PC. Even when we find that a series of functions or tools have been eliminated, or have limited functionality.
What tools are limited or removed in Windows 10 N?
- Groove music: The native music application of the operating system has been removed in the N and KN versions.
- Skype: An application that we have natively in the normal version of the operating system, but that in its launch in Windows 10 N has been eliminated.
- windows media player: Microsoft itself informs us that we must obtain these services through third parties. Its native program, this player, has been removed several times and cannot be used in this version of the operating system.
- Video: Video playback has been deleted
- Cortana: Assistant voice commands are not available in Windows 10 N.
- Codec removal: The native Windows codecs have been removed for the compatibility and playback of audio and video files: WMA, MPEG, AAC, FLAC, ALAC, AMR, Dolby Digital, VC-1, MPEG-4, H.263, .264 and .265. So we will not be able to play music in MP3, WMA or video in MP4 and others. Hence, users are forced to download free codecs on Windows 10 N.
