What is the Schema Markup?

The Schema Markup is the specific language used when creating special tags within a web page. It is used in the HTML code of any content or portal in order to develop more advanced and more detailed content for search engines, having among one of its consequences what is called as rich snippets, those more specific content previews that appear on the Google and company results pages.

Today, the portal Schema.org is the place to go to get to know this special vocabulary in depth. In it you can find from terms to advice or guidelines when writing this additional code in order to specify content for search engines, or rather to enrich it. Thanks to this, it is possible to restructure any content to obtain greater visibility in the SERPs and even notice a certain push from natural positioning.

Its use has become much more common in recent years, mainly since the main search engines reached an agreement to be compatible with it and set certain common guidelines. Today it is the key to obtaining much more elaborate and attractive snippets, capable of allowing us to differentiate between a video, a text or even a criticism with a simple glance.

At the same time, it does not require much mastery of HTML, since they are simple changes to be made in the code that, today, can be carried out even in an automated way with the appropriate tools.

What is the Schema Markup for?

The Schema Markup is intended to facilitate much more information to search engines, it is a kind of translator that intervenes between the web and the search engine so that, when the page is displayed in the SERP, it is provide more concise information and differentiate the type of content you have.

Users find it quite useful, since they can see at a glance what kind of content to find and know that it is something consistent with what they want. It is also useful for web pages because it helps redirect organic traffic and, at the same time, because it improves their positioning.

Schema Markup Examples

It is easy to fall into the mistake of confusing Schema Markup with Rich Snippet, since both are connected. In spite of everything, with an example everything is much clearer. Let's imagine that in our agency we want to promote content related to the concept Sandbox. To indicate to Google that it consists of something related to digital marketing, we would have to add a line like the following to the page of said content:
