The Drill Up and Drill Down reports in Power BI help you drill down to multiple levels. With this Power BI Drill Down and Drill Up report action, you can see the data at each level. Let's see how to create detailed and detailed reports in Power BI with an example.
How to create detailed and detailed reports in Power BI
To demonstrate the detailed and detailed reports in power bi, we will use the hierarchy that we created in the Create hierarchy article.

Drag and drop the sales amount from the Power BI Fields section to the canvas to automatically create a column chart, as shown in the following screenshot.

Next, let me add the product hierarchy to Axis to create a column chart showing the sales amount by product category.

Let me apply a quick format to this column chart.
NOTE: I suggest you check out the Column Chart Format article to understand the formatting options.

You can perform the Power BI Drill up and Drill down report action using any of the three options.
- Go to the Data / Exploration tab to view these properties
- If your data has multiple levels, these buttons are displayed in the upper left corner.
- Right-click on the report to display the context menu. You can use this menu to select the levels.
NOTE: There is a difference between the next level displayed and the breakdown. Show next level shows you the full data on the next level, but the Drill down option shows you the selected data

Let me select the button Go to the next level in the hierarchy in the upper left corner of the report.

You can now see the Sales by Product subcategory (level 2). If you look closely, the Drill Down button on the ribbon and the upper left corner is enabled. It is because there is a possibility to go up (product category level)

This time, we use the context menu. Let me select and right click on any column and select the Show next level option

You can now see the column chart showing the sales by product color.

This time, we click on the Show next level on the ribbon of the Data / Exploration tab.

Now you can see the sale amount per product. It is the last level in a hierarchy and that is why the Show next level button is disabled.
