You may receive error 85010014 or 0x850101010014 when synchronizing with Outlook. This issue only affects devices that use ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center.

This error code indicates an obstacle with Microsoft Outlook. This issue can be fixed by making sure the host's Exchange server is up to date with the latest updates and service packs.

For Nokia Lumia series phone users running Windows OS and facing a hurdle with Outlook or old Hotmail where new emails are not getting updated and when users open their emails they get the error shown in the next figure: error code: 85010014.

This error code is seen by many Windows OS users with Lumia 520, 525, 720, 920, 1020 etc. when they try to access Outlook.

Log in and change your computer password:

  1. From your computer, go to Outlook.com.
  2. Sign in to the account you used on your Windows device.
  3. Once you've signed in to your account from your computer, use your Windows device to connect to your account.
  4. You may get “Your password has expired”, basically re-access the password you used or replace it with a new one.
  5. Then go to your Windows device and sign in to your Outlook account with the new password.

Check the email settings:

  1. Go to Settings, then scroll down to Email Settings.
  2. Click on Email + Accounts
  3. Open a Microsoft account
  4. Scroll down and click on server settings.
  5. Make sure the servers listed are m.hotmail.com or bay-m.hotmail.com.
  6. If you see other links at this point, change them to m.hotmail.com, then save the settings and return to the login page.

Check Outlook settings:

1. Save all your data to a local .pst file.

2. In Outlook, click Detect and Repair Help – Click OK.

3. Complete the detection and repair procedure.

4. If all your data is present, don't worry about recovery; otherwise, restore everything from your backup.pst in step 1.

5. Remove the activeync association from the phone and the computer.

6. Create a new partnership and sync.

A few things to pay attention to when troubleshooting issues like this, reinstalling is often a poor choice because the installation information is stored in the registry and is not removed during uninstall.
