A good office suite is the perfect complement to any operating system, including Windows. This was appreciated rather quickly by Bill Gates who, from almost the beginning of Microsoft and the Windows era, launched a office suite called Microsoft Office.
This program is not only one of the most famous in the History of Computing, but it has also been the most pirated in history, since its need and its price were not very equal. Regardless, today there are plenty of good alternatives to Microsoft Office, in case we can't afford the basic Office suite. The most famous of all is called LibreOffice, an office suite as good as Microsoft Office but free and free.
This office suite was born as an alternative for Gnu / Linux operating systems, but its success has surpassed these operating systems, reaching Microsoft Windows versions. Obtaining and installing it in Windows is simple and we can have an office suite without spending large amounts of money on it.
To have Libreoffice on our Windows computer, we must first go to Libreoffice official web portal in Spanish and download the installation package. At the time of your download you will kindly ask us a donation for the project, that we can do or omit, whatever we want.
We already have our installation package and we just have to run it to start the LibreOffice installation.
It is done through an assistant who will guide us in each step, the assistant is in Spanish so it will be easy to follow. Before continuing with the installation, the wizard will ask us what we want to do, already be una instalación típica o una instalación personalizada.
The first one is faster because it will not ask us anything, but if we choose the custom one we have to choose the destination folder, the programs to install, fonts, etc ... Once selected we click on next and it will ask us if we want LibreOffice to be the default program for Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, or Visio documents.
This screen will only appear if there is or has been an installation of Microsoft Office on our computer, otherwise it will not ask; At the same time, we will be asked if we want a direct access on our desktop, something already typical in the installations of programs for Windows. Once we have chosen the respective configuration, we press the next button and the installation of files on our PC will begin.
At the end, we will be told that everything has concluded and that we press the finish button. Once the installation is complete, we can see how in the Windows Start menu we already have a folder with the name of LibreOffice.
In this new entry of the Start Menu we find a series of programs that are equivalent to the different applications of the office suite. So,
- Libreoffice Writer is a word processor.
- Libreoffice Calc it is a spreadsheet.
- LibreOffice Impress is a presentation program (PowerPoint)
- LibreOffice base it is a database.
- LibreOffice Math is an editor of mathematical codes and formulas.
- LibreOffice Draw is an image editor.
As you can see, LibreOffice offers the same as Microsoft Office, but free and without having to pay a high license for it. Regardless, if we need high performance or use macros in our documents, we will sadly have to select Microsoft Office. Personally, I have tried the two office suites and both are good, very good, LibreOffice being a great alternative What you think?
