What is Poka-yoke?

Poka-yoke is a quality technique of Japanese origin that is used to avoid the appearance of defects in products and processes. By extension, it also establishes any mechanism that helps to prevent an error before it happens, such as the system that alerts of excess weight in an elevator and stops its march, or the device that prevents the delivery of money in an ATM until the user does not withdraw his card.
