What is an Isotype?
An Isotype is a symbol that is framed within the categories that the logo concept encompasses, and that corresponds neither more nor less to the graphic representation of the brand. It is the drawing, icon or symbol with which a company is identified, eliminating any letter or word.
The latter is what completely differentiates it from the logo. In reality, the fusion between the two is what shapes the third category of logos, the imagotype. It is characterized by not having words in any way, by limiting itself solely and exclusively to the appearance of an icon.
From this dynamic, it needs to be something totally original and, if feasible, to be able to represent the values and philosophy of a company through its colors and shapes. Geometry and the good use of figures are rewarded considerably, at the same time of their combination to obtain something that responds even to mathematics.
With it, what is sought is to shape an image that is easily identifiable, that the public can link to the brand ipso facto. For the same reason, it is one of the main items that define the brand identity, as well as one of the ones that require more meditation before being built.
What is an Isotype for?
An Isotype has the main utility of being the greatest representative of the visual identity of a firm or brand. It is designed to launch the name of this at a glance, so that the consumer knows perfectly who it belongs to and what they can find if they resort to it.
The easy accreditation and distinction are the main objectives that it has, hence its design has to be elaborated in a more than conscientious way. Well constructed, isotypes are capable of transmitting a great deal to the public, but fundamentally being tremendously easy to memorize and identify.
