Firewall concept
What is the Firewall?
The Firewall is a hardware or software that protects a computer from unauthorized access from a third party network. It is also known as a firewall and acts as a wall between the Internet and the PC. Is the one monitors network traffic and limits data input or output.
It works under certain rules that allow authorizing a connection, block a connection and redirect it without permission from the issuer. From this dynamic, allows the installation of a filtration method according to the security policies of an entity. Some of them are the prohibition of access to all communication channels and the explicit authorization of some communication channels.
The Firewall has been the first barrier of protection on the Internet for more than 25 years, distinguishing three generations of it. The first generation consisted of data packet filtering; the second generation was in charge of placing each individual data packet within a series of packets; and the third generation developed the application firewall.
Although it is one of the most essential systems for computer security, it also has certain limitations, such as the impossibility of protection from any computer attack whose traffic passes through him and the inability to protect the computer from any virus attack through file or software installation.
What is the Firewall for
The Firewall serves to block access to people or apps of dubious origin, which could steal confidential data stored on the PC and cause the loss of valuable information for an entity or person. The Firewall is designed to protect your computer from all kinds of threats, malware and computer attacks.
Equally, By itself it does not prevent all attacks or protect your computer from viruses or spam. However, the risk of receiving an infection would be much greater if no Firewall was installed.
Firewall examples
An example would be the Windows Firewall, a firewall that is already incorporated in the latest versions of the Windows operating system. This tool is free and allows permanent protection of the equipment without the need for complex configurations. To understand how to use Windows Firewall, read the following tutorial.
There are also other more complete and advanced alternatives to Windows Firewall, as well as different types of Firewall in hardware and software, such as the packet filter firewall or circuit level gateways, among others.
