Turbo VPN Review

Turbo VPN is developed by a company called Innovative Connecting. It has developed a number of other free and basic VPNs, including VPN Proxy Master, Snap Master VPN, Solo VPN Pro, and VPN Proxy Master Lite. 

It is incorporated at 38 Beach Road # 29-11 South Beach Tower, Singapore, which is a nation of intrusive surveillance, government spying and has a partnership with Five Eyes, a US-led intelligence sharing network.

Regardless, it is not just about the Western powers; our independent research further shows Turbo VPN has strong ties to mainland China , and it is also quite ready to transfer data to the authorities there. 

The director of Innovative Connecting is a Chinese businessman and citizen called Danian Chen , who is also the CEO of LinkSure, the company behind WiFi Master Key . 

Described by Forbes As "one of China's most influential young leaders," he appears only in corporate records and has no public association with the company.  

Turbo VPN clearly defines that it is willing to hand over your personal information to legal authorities 'if ordered by a court of competent jurisdiction'. 

It is clear that customer privacy is not a priority for Turbo VPN .

When we first reviewed Turbo VPN, it had one of the worst privacy policies we've ever seen.

Since we contacted Turbo VPN asking questions and pointing this out, we have noticed that they have completely revised their privacy policy.  

Still, the new privacy policy is still not great.

It's confusing, it's misspelled, but at least it lists the amount of data it collects. It is feasible that Turbo VPN don't collect your ISP or IP address, but collect this:

• If a VPN connection is successful
• VPN location you are connecting to
• Country from which you connect
• Your ISP 
• Size of transferred data
• Usage statistics
• Analytical data

The fact that it later calls itself a "no-logs" VPN shows just how loosely and misused the term is. 

Turbo VPN uses this justification:

Minimal information enables us to provide you with efficient technical support.

But we know that you can run a great VPN with a lot less information collected.

It is quite obvious that Turbo VPN is a VPN that does not want you to read its privacy policy. It has made it visually unappealing (the default font size is extremely small) which is painful to read, and the information it contains is horrible.

More than that, all this data is available to the Communist Party of China, at the same time from private interests and third parties with whom it is also sharing it.

Luckily, we are here to call and warn you clearly: avoid Turbo VPN . 

Turbo VPN recorded average results in our most recent speed tests. Download speeds were mediocre when connecting to a nearby server, but greatly reduced when connecting to international locations. In general, Turbo VPN speeds may be fine for casual use, but they are too inconsistent to connect to various server locations.

These are the results of our speed tests:

Download speed without Turbo VPN: 47 Mbps

Download speed with Turbo VPN: 30 Mbps

Our download speed loss when Turbo VPN is running: 36%

These speeds are unpredictable, even if slightly mediocre. 

What about other locations?

We pass all VPN applications through our rigorous speed test procedure to establish average speeds for various locations worldwide. These are the average speeds you can expect:

• USA: 16 Mpbs (download) and 31 Mbps (load)
• Germany: 28 Mbps (download) and 40 Mbps (load)
• Singapore: 0.49Mpbs (download) and 33Mbps (load)

Although it got some average speeds locally, Turbo VPN it also got some totally bad speeds, specifically when it hooked up to Singapore. We recorded a speed drop from the 97% when using Turbo VPN.

It is also the case that Turbo VPN is, unfortunately, wildly consistent. 

This is an obstacle that has been endorsed by many user reviews. 

Turbo VPN claims no limits on bandwidth or data usage, but operates a 'fair use' policy. 

If our experience is valid, running some speed tests seems to exceed what you envision fair, resulting in a sharp drop in performance.   

Turbo VPN has a very small server network.

I know it states have more than 10,000 servers, both on your website and in an email with us.

That seems highly unlikely. Even if it were true, it is reserved for premium users.

For the free users , you can choose from seven countries. These are:

• Canada
• Germany
• India
• Netherlands
• Singapore
• United Kingdom
• U.S 

Only the US has a choice at the city level: New York and San Francisco on each coast. 

This is by no means the coast-to-coast coverage that many top-tier providers offer, but being able to choose the east or west coast based on your true location helps improve performance.

Asia-Pacific is represented only by India and Singapore, and users in South America and Africa will be disappointed to find no servers. 

If you will be connecting primarily from these regions, you'd better choose another provider that has a larger and more diverse server list, such as TunnelBear Free.

Turbo VPN is a poor choice for streaming. 

On both of your US servers, we were unable to access Netflix. 

Some users have claimed that they can enter the site, but only through premium VIP servers, which leaves free users on high and dry. 

For our surprise, unlocked BBC iPlayer .

We can't say how long this will last, but it's a good thing for now. 

The BBC cracked down on VPN providers, so the only Turbo VPN server in the UK is likely to fall victim to this soon.

We really couldn't recommend Turbo VPN for torrenting or P2P activity due to its severe lack of privacy features and intrusive logging policy. 

Turbo VPN also clearly defines in its FAQ that users should not enter BitTorrent while online or their account may be locked.

Turbo VPN makes it quite clear that the app cannot be used in China. This is for "political" reasons.

The country cracked down on VPN providers, rendering most VPNs useless when used to connect from the country.

You are not likely to find a VPN as insecure as Turbo VPN.

As part of our free VPN research , we detect insecure functions, DNS leaks and virus / malware in the application.

Turbo VPN also uses third-party advertising platforms to obtain confidential information "for personalized advertising purposes [sic]". 

This goes against everything a VPN is supposed to do and what it stands for.

On the bright side, it claims to offer OpenVPN as its default protocol, which is our preferred option. 

But you can't see this from the app itself, so we can't be sure you're telling the truth here.

They confirmed it in an email, but they also told us that they use IPSec. Considering that you can't change your protocol, we can't tell which one you're using on a given server. 

Other than that, there is nothing else to talk about in terms of Turbo VPN security and encryption methods.  

There's not even a kill switch, an essential privacy feature that blocks internet traffic in case the VPN connection drops. 

Your personal data is not safe as Turbo VPN does not even maintain its own DNS servers, which means that your web traffic is routed through third party servers even when you are connected to the VPN. 

Turbo VPN is extremely simple to install and very easy to use. 

It is a fluid and modern looking app with a nice hare theme design. 

Animation is fun, but don't get distracted; remember that this is a potentially compromised application.

There are many advertisements that annoy you, but that is often the only source of funding for a free VPN.

The Turbo VPN customization alternatives in the settings menu are limited only to selecting whether or not the application connects at startup. 

There is nothing wrong with the design and ease of use of Turbo VPN; It's all very intuitive, but that hardly makes up for its huge privacy and security flaws.

Turbo VPN claims to have 'perfect' customer service 24/7, but our experience was far from that. 

We send an email to the address provided in the Google Play Store search engine, but do not we got answer.

The web portal didn't help either: it includes very generic information about being the 'fastest', 'easiest' and 'most stable' VPN on the market, but it lacks technical information to back it up. 

It also does not provide setup guides or troubleshooting tips.

The app includes an FAQ page, but it is very basic and will not solve most problems.

If you have any questions or problems with the application, do not expect many answers.

We do not suggest Turbo VPN under any circumstances. It is unreliable, unsafe, and dangerous. While it is feasible for you to have access to BBC iPlayer, it is basically not important to emphasize sacrificing it in terms of privacy, security and performance.

We suggest another VPN (almost any other VPN, actually), but mostly these:
