Firefox is one of the most popular and trusted web browsers on the market. But there are some scenarios where Firefox can't open a web portal when it can with all other browsers and computers. This is a common error that many users have reported. So if you've been getting the SEC_ERROR_OCSP_INVALID_SIGNING_CERT error in Firefox, you're in the right place. Users have reported that they are unable to log in to some Microsoft services, such as Bing or Outlook, due to this error. Even though the same services could be accessed simultaneously from a different browser, if you face such an obstacle, you can follow the steps outlined in this post to fix it.

sec_error_ocsp_invalid_signing_cert-3556262

An error occurred connecting to ddd.visualstudio.com. Invalid OCSP signing certificate in OCSP solution. Error Code: SEC_ERROR_OCSP_INVALID_SIGNING_CERT

The error roughly translates to "The certificate with which you access a web portal or web page is invalid or has been invalidated." The certificate may have been correct at one time, but now it is invalid. An appropriate technical definition for this procedure is OCSP Stapling.

Disable OCSP passthrough

Try temporarily disabling OCSP tracing by setting this preference to false in the about:config page to see if it has any effect.

security.ssl.enable_ocsp_stapling = false

You can open the about:config page from the location/address line. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk" to continue.

It is best to right-click the context menu to reset this preference to true once you have finished entering an affected web portal, as this is a security feature. Please note that an OCSP connection (just like an HTTP connection) can be affected by plugins and ad blockers. If the bug is still not fixed or if you know someone else, try disabling any active plugins and then systematically re-enable them until you discover the perpetrator.

Disabling OCSP stacking may also affect the functionality of other websites you visit, as long as they use the security feature.

Set the correct date and time

Many users reported that the error message was fixed and that they could log in to the site regularly after changing the date and time settings to the current values.

If your date and time settings are significantly out of date, the web server you are trying to access will reject the connection for security reasons. This ensures that you have the correct date and time settings:

  1. Press Windows + R to open a Run dialog box. Then type “timedate.cpl” and click Enter to open the Date and Time window.
  2. In the Date and Time window, go to the Date and Time window and click Change Date and Time.
  3. In the Date and Time Settings window, use the calendar under Date and Time to determine the appropriate values for your time zone.
  4. Restart your computer and visit the web portal again the next time you start to see if the issue is resolved.
