MOOC

MOOC concept

What is the MOOC?

MOOC is the acronym for Massive Online Open Courses (in Spanish, COMA, Massive and Open Online Training Programs). It is the concept that is used to talk about all those training programs that have appeared on the Internet, and that continue to appear, to learn to master certain sectors or topics without having to pay for it and without having to attend any physical class.

Some of the major universities around the world have specialized in offering these options, completely changing the traditional methodology of teaching. This concept, which was born in 2008 by George Siemenes and Stephen Downes, takes advantage of the facilities of the Internet and the philosophy that prevails in the digital sector to grant something achievable and of interest to the general public.

MOOCs are free training programs, even though sometimes a payment can be requested to issue the official title that proves having passed the training; They do not have limits regarding the number of registrations and, what is more important, they offer their didactic materials absolutely free of charge.

A new way of learning that serves to enter more current fields of knowledge and that cares about offering some flexibility for those who, for work or other reasons.

What is MOOC for?

A MOOC is used to learn about any topic of interest. It is a training, usually initiation, even though there are more and more specialized training programs, which allows you to study freely and enter a large amount of knowledge. Its opening nature and free of schedules makes it a very interesting concept for companies.

Therefore, the employees of a business can undergo such training and specialize even more in the field they cover to offer better performance through greater knowledge. In the case of implementing new methodologies or technologies, the MOOC can be the door with which to enter the domain of these in the workplace.
