Data Warehouse

Data Warehouse concept

What is the Data Warehouse?

A Data Warehouse is a large data and information warehouse which, at the same time, collects all those that are simply necessary for carrying out analysis and reports related to Business Intelligence (BI). A fundamental part in the decision-making of large companies when determining objectives, determining regulations and posing risks.

Even though its name comes from the word warehouse, its work goes beyond storage, as we have already explained. It is a system that is hosted on a company server or in the cloud and that collects data on OLTP (Online Transaction Processing) and several other sources of information for subsequent selection and extraction for use with analytical purposes. .

An architecture that is divided into 3 structures: basic, basic with test area and basic with test area and with data marts. The first provides raw data along with metadata for easy access; the second offers the opportunity to clean the information according to the use that is going to be given to it; and the third offers solutions for different lines of business (inventory, sales, purchases, etc.).

In all cases, the data warehouse achieves the function of storing information of interest to the company for practical and strategic purposes. Their structures determine the degree of usability, even though they especially help to know to what extent it is easier to target different branches of the same business based on the data obtained.

What is the Data Warehouse for

Even though the main purpose of the Data Warehouse is to store the information already refined for its later use at the business level, it is a tool that facilitates decision-making within a company, as well as improves the quality of these. At the same time, it also allows you to store previously made queries or analyzes already carried out, at the same time with greater speed when entering the data. Apart from this, it is capable of facilitating communication between departments in the same company.

Information, analysis, administration and communication are the items where it influences considerably.
