In rare cases, laptop batteries will basically not work as usual. This can happen if there is a short in the internal components of the battery. Even though most batteries are fairly robust, extreme heat or cold, contact with liquid, or a strong jolt caused by hitting or dropping the laptop can damage the battery.

Another chance is that your laptop's battery plug is bad. This can happen for the same reasons that damage the battery. At the same time, an overvoltage can affect the components connected to the battery. Regardless, this is unlikely because the AC adapter (found outside of most charger laptops) supports the main load from the surge and protects the laptop itself.

Hard/Power reset your laptop

Un restablecimiento de hardware de una computadora portátil restablece la configuración del hardware, pero no tiene ningún efecto sobre los datos personales. El proceso para un restablecimiento completo / de energía es el siguiente:

  1. Turn off the Windows device.
  2. Disconnect charger and remove battery from unit.
  3. Press and hold the power switch for at least 30 seconds. This will discharge the capacitors on the motherboard and reset any memory chips that were still active.
  4. Reinsert the battery, connect it and charge the device.

Check if it works; otherwise, move on to the next solution.

Checking the power management settings

Have you checked whether the battery is charging or not? When fully charged, your laptop, battery or computer is in good condition, this is a power management setting.

  1. When you switch to display properties, select the Screen Saver tab, then click the Power button,
In the Power Schemes field there is a drop down window, click on it and select “Rixane Power Scheme”, it is a power switching utility that quickly switches between AC and battery when the power cord/charger is connected or disconnected while the computer laptop is on.
  2. If you set it to “Always On”, it will turn off when the power cord is unplugged, even if the battery is charged.
  3. This also happens with many non-HP laptops, if you don't have an HP laptop or there is no "Rixane" option available, select the "Laptop / Laptop" power system.

Troubleshooting a possible motherboard issue

If the unit does not automatically switch to battery when it loses power, you have a problem with the motherboard. If you haven't already:

  • Check the output voltage of the power supply and/or replace it with a power supply of known quality. It's possible that you basically have an empty battery and a faulty power supply.
  • Check the condition of the DC plug. It can be damaged in such a way that it prevents the battery from charging.

If both are good, the problem is with the device's motherboard.
