Peer-to-peer file sharing is a great way to upload files quickly and easily. The most widely used peer-to-peer application in the world is uTorrent.

With this simple and intuitive program, you can now download torrents and adjust everything from prioritizing files to your preferred storage location to changing bandwidth. It is free to use, installs in the shortest possible time and is as easy to use as possible. Not in Windows 10. Microsoft has suddenly decided to remove some permissions from uTorrent, and many users encountered “Write to disk: Access is denied” error.

Due to this bug, some users' downloads were blocked or interrupted. While others were unable to start the download session at all.

(*10*)Run uTorrent as administrator.

To fix this problem, uTorrent should always be run "as administrator" by default. But that is not all. You are still one step ahead.

  • Click the Windows button and enter uTorrent.
  • Right-click on the icon and select “Open file location”.
  • Right-click on the uTorrent icon in the open folder and find Properties.
  • Go to the "Compatibility" tab in Properties, set "Run this program in compatibility mode for" and select "Windows XP Service Pack 3" from the drop-down menu.
  • Scroll down and select the “Run this program as an administrator” checkbox.
  • In other words, make sure you have everything as shown on the screenshot.
  • Now click Apply and OK and go back to the uTorrent icon. Right-click again and select “Open file location”.

Run uTorrent in compatibility mode

  • Find the uTorrent.exe file, right click on it and select Properties again.
  • Click on the “Compatibility” tab again.
  • Repeat the changes, as for the symbol, and save.
  • You may think that making changes to an exe file is enough and you can skip the step to change the icon, but it turns out that we have to change both the exe file and the icon, since the application in Windows 10 ran differently.

Now double click on the uTorrent icon and you will see that everything is working now.

Disable Read-Only Download Folder Property

If the first method doesn't work for you, it's possible that the error is due to the fact that the folder you upload the torrent to has a read-only property. You must create a new folder and disable the read-only property to fix this error.

  • To create a new folder, right-click anywhere, point your mouse pointer at the "Create" option, and select "Folder."
  • After creating a folder, rename it whatever you want and right click on it. Then open its properties by clicking on “Properties”.
  • In the “General” tab, uncheck the “Read Only” checkbox (applies only to files in the folder).
  • Now click Apply and then OK. It may take a few seconds to apply the changes.
  • Now try to download torrent again and use this folder only as download folder for uTorrent.

Sometimes the files may or may not be damaged. Reloading can take some time, but it usually works.

Reinstall uTorrent and try again.

As a last resort, but it worked. If nothing works, do it. It will almost always work, and I used this method for you in this particular situation and it worked.

Estos pasos están diseñados para ayudarlo a solucionar el problema actual. Si todavía no puede corregir el error «Escribir en disco: acceso denegado» en uTorrent, debe reinstalar el client e intentarlo nuevamente.

You have to do it. If you have any questions or suggestions, wait for your message. The comments section is just below.
