At that time, I made a good game with the plugin and concluded that it was the best solution to sell digital downloads directly from your blog that I knew.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward four months and I&#039;m ready to put my money where my mouth is. I launched an information product at the end of October and until a few days ago I had been selling it using E-Junkie. However, all of that changed recently when I switched to using Easy Digital Downloads to handle the sale of my freelance writing guide online.<\/p>\n<p>In this post, I&#039;m going to provide you with a real-life case study of my Easy Digital Downloads implementation so that you can see exactly what the process of selling digital products through your WordPress blog entails.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFPor-que-cambie-a-Easy-Digital-Downloads\"><\/span>Why did I switch to Easy Digital Downloads?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I must start by saying that I was not particularly upset with E-Junkie. Frankly, for $ 5 a month you really can&#039;t complain. It is a decent option.<\/p>\n<p>However, I felt that I wanted more than decent. The interface is not particularly user friendly and the reporting system is a bit basic. Easy digital downloads had been on my mind since I reviewed it, but I was too busy to handle what I thought would be a bit of a fiddly transfer process. They sold me the plugin, I just needed to find the time.<\/p>\n<p>Luckily I did, which brings me to this case study!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Configuracion-del-complemento-Easy-Digital-Downloads\"><\/span>Easy Digital Downloads Plugin Settings<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I was concerned that launching Easy Digital Downloads would be a nuisance, but nothing could be further from the truth. Actually, the plugin is practically ready to use as soon as you install it; Without a doubt, it would be very useful if you make some adjustments, but nothing important at all.<\/p>\n<p>Once installed, Easy Digital Downloads appears with the appropriate name in your sidebar:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='easy-digital-downloads-menu-options-7791361' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"Easy Digital Downloads menu options\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/easy-digital-downloads-menu-options-7791361.jpg' width=\"220\" height=\"180\"><\/p>\n<p>The number of options available may initially seem overwhelming, but the interface is very easy to use. Before I started adding products and initiating the change, I checked the Settings, which is divided into six tabs:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='easy-digital-dowloads-settings-tabs-4259145' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"Screenshot of Easy Digital Download Settings Tabs\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/easy-digital-dowloads-settings-tabs-4259145.jpg' width=\"600\" height=\"50\"><\/p>\n<p>All I did at this stage was enable test mode, select my payment gateways, and access my PayPal email address. By default, Easy Digital Download comes with PayPal and a &quot;Test Payment&quot; option (the use of which is obvious). This is all I need at the moment as everything went through PayPal at E-Junkie, but there is the option to add additional payment gateways with extensions.<\/p>\n<p>Then I added my product of which there are actually three versions (and price points). This was extremely straightforward: I entered a name, then uploaded the file and set a price and download limit:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='easy-digital-downloads-add-new-download-5303580' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"Easy digital downloads New download screen\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/easy-digital-downloads-add-new-download-5303580.jpg' width=\"600\" height=\"322\"><\/p>\n<p>That&#039;s it! Once I saved my download, I was pretty good to go; all that was left for me to do was add a shortcode for the Buy button on my sales page.<\/p>\n<p>Easy Digital Downloads makes this easy by adding a button above the rich text editor on the New Post \/ Page screens:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='insert-download-2282396' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"The Insert Download button\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/insert-download-2282396.jpg' width=\"220\" height=\"46\"><\/p>\n<p>When you click the button, there is only some simple data to fill in:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='insert-download-screen-4949914' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"The Insert Download screen\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/insert-download-screen-4949914.jpg' width=\"405\" height=\"265\"><\/p>\n<p>That&#039;s it! Once complete, the button will appear on your sales page in the way you have determined:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='buy-now-button-5998703' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"A screenshot of the Buy Now button in action\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/buy-now-button-5998703.jpg' width=\"600\" height=\"235\"><\/p>\n<p>It&#039;s fair to say that the whole process was a lot easier than I thought.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"El-viaje-del-comprador-a-traves-de-de-mi-sitio\"><\/span>The buyer&#039;s journey through my site<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>To be honest I thought it was all a bit <em>at the same time<\/em> easy. I really wanted to explore the journey any customer would take through my site when purchasing my information product. Luckily, doing so is really simple with the Test Payment option enabled - you can test the process as many times as you like.<\/p>\n<p>I soon found out that Easy Digital Downloads creates a series of default pages when installed so that the checkout \/ checkout process is ready to go right away. Technically, you don&#039;t need to touch anything for the checkout process to work once you&#039;ve added downloads and checkout buttons, but it may be wise to tailor those pages to make things a little more personal for your site.<\/p>\n<p>Doing so is very easy - those extra pages can be found alongside all the other pages on your site and edited in the same way as any other:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='easy-digital-downloads-pages-3989531' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"Easy digital download pages\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/easy-digital-downloads-pages-3989531.jpg' width=\"600\" height=\"163\"><\/p>\n<p>Each page contains a short code that provides the link between the page and the dynamically created content. All I did was add some text before this shortcode to get the desired result, like this ...<\/p>\n<p><img alt='checkout-page-4931206' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"A screenshot of the payment page\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/checkout-page-4931206.jpg' width=\"600\" height=\"260\"><\/p>\n<p>\u2026 Turned into this:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='edd-checkout-page-4810439' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"A screenshot of the payment page\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/edd-checkout-page-4810439.jpg' width=\"600\" height=\"469\"><\/p>\n<p>Once I was satisfied with the process through which a customer would purchase an item from my site, I checked the purchase confirmation email that they would receive. This is another area in which Easy Digital Downloads excels as it enables you to customize this email to your heart&#039;s content with a series of dynamic fields. This is what I ended up with:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='purchase-confirmation-email-6155062' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"A screenshot of the purchase confirmation email.\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/purchase-confirmation-email-6155062.jpg' width=\"600\" height=\"292\"><\/p>\n<p>What an email like this actually produces:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='purchase-confirmation-email-2-2409608' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"A screenshot of the purchase confirmation email.\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/purchase-confirmation-email-2-2409608.jpg' width=\"600\" height=\"242\"><\/p>\n<p>Simple but effective.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Reportes-y-Estadisticas\"><\/span>Reports and Statistics<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>I don&#039;t have anything in the form of reports to show you (as I only have screenshots of one day&#039;s sales), but the reports are one of the main reasons I decided to switch from E-Junkie to Easy Digital Downloads. Having all your reports within the WordPress dashboard is extremely convenient and the reports themselves are very well presented.<\/p>\n<p>You can check the data in list format (and click on each product to get more information):<\/p>\n<p><img alt='purchases-2678244' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"A screenshot of shopping\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/purchases-2678244.png' width=\"600\" height=\"394\"><\/p>\n<p>Or watch trends over time with reports:<\/p>\n<p><img alt='reports-7246013' loading=\"lazy\" class=\"fancyimg aligncenter\" title=\"A screenshot of an Easy Digital Download report\" src='https:\/\/rmarketingdigital.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/reports-7246013.png' width=\"600\" height=\"257\"><\/p>\n<p>It&#039;s all pretty slick and a huge improvement on my E-Junkie experience. I can&#039;t wait to dig into these reports when I have more data to play with.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hay-mucho-mas-detras-de-escena\"><\/span>There&#039;s so much more behind the scenes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>That sums up the simple steps I took to get Easy Digital Downloads up and running - the whole process took me no more than 30 minutes (many of which were curious tinkering). But while Easy Digital Downloads is fairly easy to set up, there is a lot of depth in the options available so you can tweak things to your liking. I&#039;m not sure there are many (if any) ways you would like to offer digital downloads through your WordPress blog other than Easy Digital Downloads. <em>hypocrisy<\/em> handle - <a rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Pippin's Plugins\" href=\"https:\/\/pippinsplugins.com\/\">Pippin<\/a> He really seems to have thought of everything.<\/p>\n<p>There are a ton of things I haven&#039;t even mentioned, like discount codes, categories and tags, and more settings, but it&#039;s all there for you to discover for yourself when you download Easy Digital Downloads at no cost (yes, it is free!).<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, the plugin is updated normally and, as I mentioned previously, there are a large number of extensions that you can use to increase its functionality. I have already installed the Affiliates Pro extension and will take a closer look at other extensions to see if they can help me at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Having installed and configured Easy Digital Downloads, I can&#039;t think of any reason why I would choose an alternative option.
