are many acronyms, some more recognized than others. In the case of the NIF, we are talking about an alphanumeric code used in Spain and extensive to other countries.<\/p>\n<p>But, <strong>What is really the NIF?<\/strong> Does everyone have one? How do you apply? These and many other questions is what we are going to answer next.<span id=\"more-22488\"><\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFQue-es-el-NIF\"><\/span><span id=\"Que_es_el_NIF\">What is the NIF?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The NIF is in fact the tax identification number. Or what is the same <strong>the number that identifies you as a person, either physical or legal for tax purposes<\/strong>. Actually, it is a number that everyone in Spain has and that refers to &quot;tax issues&quot;.<\/p>\n<p>There are two types, one that of natural persons; and another that of legal persons. Each of them is different from each other. Depending on whether the NIF is of a natural or legal person, its composition is:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If we are talking about the NIF of a natural person, it is made up of a letter and 8 numbers.<\/li>\n<li>If we talk about the Tax Identification Number of a legal person, it is made up of 9 characters and, of them, one is a letter, seven are numbers and the last one is in fact a check digit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Formerly, the NIF of legal persons was known as CIF<\/strong> (Tax identification code). But, since 2008, this has been extinguished and these acronyms, the Tax Identification Number (which was used only for natural persons), began to be used also for legal persons.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"western\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"%C2%BFCual-es-la-diferencia-entre-NIF-y-NIE\"><\/span><span id=\"Que_diferencia_hay_entre_NIF_y_NIE\">What is the difference between NIF and NIE?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Now that you understand what the NIF is, surely you remember that there is a word very similar to this, with the acronym NIE. Even when they seem similar, the truth is that they are two absolutely different numbers, and that they are not related to the same function. But this is not the case in all cases. The <strong>DNI is the National Identity Document,<\/strong> something that differs from what is the NIF, the Tax Identification Number.<\/p>\n<p>Now, in the case of natural persons, both the NIF and the DNI coincide in that number.
