One of the improvements to which we have become accustomed to using Windows over time, is the opportunity to save images, videos, documents and downloads by default in the folder located within our user account, from this dynamic we always have everyone at hand these files from the favorites section of the browser. Personally, I have never gotten used to using the Downloads folder for store all the content I download from the Internet, given that over time it can be one of the directories that occupies the most space on my hard drive, especially when I download large files.

In particular, I have always preferred to perform all the downloads on the Windows desktop, so that once I have finished what I had planned to do with the download, I can save or delete it so that it does not take up space on our hard drive. If you've gotten used to using this folder, it's probably useful to you, but if you don't just like the location where it is, in the browser's favorites bar you can delete it from there (it won't be erased from the hard drive) and put a shortcut on your desktop.

But if your hard drive space is very tight because it is an SSD drive, you probably have another hard drive for both of you. download content to store. In this circumstance, the best thing you can do is change the location of the Downloads folder so that when you are forced to download a lot of content, the downloads do not stop due to not having enough space on the hard disk.

Modify the download folder location

  • First we go to the Downloads folder, located in the browser's favorites section.
  • We go to the icon and press the right button to enter the properties.
  • Now we go to the Location tab, select Move and establish the new unit or route where we intend to store all current downloads and those that will be made in the future.
