How to enter data in Power BI

Let me show you how to enter data in Power BI Desktop with an example. In real time, you may face a situation like manually entering table data or copying data from text file to your Power Bi working environment. In these situations, you can use the Power BI data entry option.

How to enter data in Power BI

To enter new data in Power BI Desktop, click Introduce data option under the Home tongue.

Clicking Introduce data The option opens a new window called Create table. Here, you can create new columns and add new rows.

Clicking in the Column1 area allows you to add a new name. Let me change the header of Column 1 as the Name. Then click * to add a new column.

You can now see the New column in Power BI.

Use the text box next to the name: archived to rename the table. As you can see in the screenshot below, we rename the table as Example 1.

Then click the Upload button to upload this table to the Power Bi desktop. You can also click the Edit button to edit these fields.

Enter data from the Excel file into Power BI Desktop

In this example, we explain the steps to paste the data from the Excel file into Power BI Desktop. First, let me open the Create table window by clicking on the Introduce data button

Let me copy the data present in the excel file

And paste it into the Create Table window (Control + C and Control + V). Remember, Power BI automatically detects column headings.

First, let me copy the data present in the SQL table

First, let me open the text file. As you can see, the file is not formatted correctly. Let me copy the content of this text file.

Next, we paste it into the table creation window. You can see in the screenshot below, all the information stored in one column.

We can edit them by pressing the Edit button, but we will write a separate article to explain those techniques. So for now, we rename the table and load it to the desktop.
