If you decide to change your Microsoft account email address and password, OneDrive may not be able to accept the change and you may receive the following error message: “You're syncing another account. Here is what you can do to fix the problem.

You're already syncing a personal OneDrive on this computer. Please unlink that account to add a new one.

You can't sign in to OneDrive and you get the error "You're syncing a different account." This error can occur after you have changed your Microsoft account password.

Reset OneDrive on Mac

Reset OneDrive on your Mac first to see if it helps:

  • Close OneDrive. (Select the cloud icon in the top bar, then choose Settings > Sign out of OneDrive.)
  • Look for OneDrive in your Applications folder.
  • Right-click OneDrive and select Show Package Contents.
  • Go to the Content > Resources folder.
  • Double-click ResetOneDriveApp.command (or ResetOneDriveAppStandalone.command if you're using the standalone app).
  • Start OneDrive and complete the setup procedure.

Clear OneDrive cache references

  • When the “Windows Credentials” menu expands, go to “General Credentials”.
  • There you can find all the entries that contain “OneDrive Cached Credentials”.
  • Click the dropdown arrow next to this option and select the “Delete” option to remove them.
  • Then restart OneDrive and check if the problem persists.
  • Please note that disabling or uninstalling OneDrive on your computer will not result in the loss of any files or data. You can access your files at any time by signing in to OneDrive.com.

If this workaround doesn't resolve the issue or doesn't give you the desired result, uninstall OneDrive and reinstall OneDrive.

Delete two synchronized files

It turns out that there are two files called UBF8T346G9.OneDriveSyncClientSuite.plist and UBF8T346G9.OfficeOneDriveSyncIntegration.plist, which can be found in /Users/[Username]/Library/GroupContainers/ and are often reported by users as being responsible for the error” You are syncing a different account.

The first file (ClientSuite) contains all the information about the accounts you are logged into today, while the second file (Integration) contains log and file information about every SharePoint folder you are logged into.

Since OneDrive can regenerate the files without any further issues, you should be able to fix the problem by using the Keychain Access utility to locate and delete the two files responsible for the error.
