Do you want to permanently disable or erase the Avast signature for all outgoing emails? Then you have come to the correct place!

If you install Avast by default, it will enable an email signature setting and include one of the following messages in all your outgoing emails:

"No virus."

"This email was sent from a virus-free computer protected by Avast."

"This email has been checked for viruses by Avast antivirus software."

"This email is free of viruses and malware because Avast Antivirus protection is active."

The message is generally attached to the bottom of all outgoing emails if you use Outlook, Thunderbird or another email client installed on your computer. It will also be added if you use Gmail, Yahoo Mail or another webmail provider through your web browser.

This feature can be annoying if you don't want to tell each recipient that the message has been scanned for viruses.

Both settings are enabled by default, which is very annoying, primarily because you may not know that this signature will be added to your emails until you see one of your sent messages. Tried sending myself some emails to activate this signature but with no luck it seems like it was added randomly.

Disable Avast signing for outgoing emails

  1. Open the Avast user interface and click ☰ Menu ▸ Settings.
  2. In the menu on the left, select Protection and then click Main Shields.
  3. Scroll down to Configure Protection Options and click on the Mail Shield tab.
  4. Uncheck the box next to Add a signature to the bottom of sent emails.

Your outgoing emails no longer contain the Avast signature. You can reactivate this setting at any time.

conclusion

When you use Avast Antivirus, including the free version and some of the major desktop email clients (Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Zimbra Desktop, eM Client, Inky, Claws Mail), Avast automatically inserts the footer signature into all your own outgoing messages.

As of version 2016, if you use a web client (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Outlook Mail, Live Mail) in the Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer search engine, Avast will also automatically insert the signature of the footer in all your own outgoing messages. The only browser in which the Avast signature is not inserted is Opera.
