Access blocked websites: Are your favorite sites blocked on your university's Wi-Fi? Or is it something on your computer that doesn't allow you to access it? There could be many reasons why you cannot access a particular website. It could be blocked on your computer or on your network or, in fact, completely prohibited in your country. This article will take you through a number of methods that can help you unblock these blocked websites. Let's get started.

Access to blocked or restricted websites for free

If you can't open a particular website, try these:

  • Clear your browser cache
  • Clear your DNS cache
  • Set the date and time
  • Unblock websites from the list of restricted sites in Chrome
  • Uncheck the Proxy option
  • Reinstall chrome
  • Restart your host file located at C: NWindowsN-System32N drivers, etc. Check if the URL you want to access is mapped to, in which case, remove it.
  • Run the virus scan and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to fix the malware-related issue.

Has the website been down?

It is possible that the website you want to open is not really blocked, but is down due to some problem with the website. To check if a website is down or working, you can use website monitors like or and enter the URL of the website you want to check.

Blocked or restricted web pages? Here's how to access them for free

Method 1: Use VPN to unblock

A virtual proxy network allows you to access any blocked website by creating a tunnel between your computer and a VPN server, making it difficult for websites to track your identity or any other data by encrypting all computer traffic. Therefore, your IP address is anonymous and you can access the blocked website from anywhere in the world. You can use VPN services like ExpressVPN, Hotspot Shield, etc. These VPNs allow you to choose a country of your choice that will be used as your fake location, allowing you to use location-based sites and services.

Method 2: Use a proxy to access restricted websites

Proxy servers, unlike VPNs, only hide your IP address. They do not encrypt your traffic, but only cut off any identification that your communications may contain. It is less secure than VPNs but works well at the school or institutional level. There are many proxy websites that allow you to access any blocked website. Some of the proxy websites you can use are,,

Method 3: Use IP address instead of URL

The URLs that we use to access a website are only the names of the websites and not their actual address. These hostnames are used to first map your real IP address and then the connection is made. However, only the website URL may be blocked. In this case, it will suffice to access the website through your IP address. To find the IP address of any website,

  • Click in the search field next to the windows button.
  • Type cmd.
  • Use the shortcut to open the command prompt.
  • At the command line, type "ping". Note: Replace "" with the actual address of the website.
  • You will get the required IP address.

Use this IP address to enter your browser directly and you will be able to access blocked or restricted websites.

Method 4: Use Google Translate

You can unblock certain websites using Google Translate. This method works because instead of accessing the website through your local network, you are now redirecting it through Google. Google Translate almost never crashes as it is considered to be for educational purposes. In order to use Google Translate for this purpose,

  • Open Google Translate.
  • Change the "de" language to a language other than English.
  • Change the language "a" to English.
  • Now in the source box, write the URL of the website you need.
  • The translated version will now give you a link to your desired website.
  • Click on the link and you can access the blocked websites for free.

Please note that this method does not work for websites blocked by the ISP (Internet Service Provider) itself.

Method 5: URL recast method

This method works for those websites that are hosted on a VPS (Virtual Private Server). Some websites are blocked because the SSL certificate for that domain is not installed. So instead of using or, try typing in your web browser. Click Proceed Anyway if a security warning appears and you can visit the 'access denied' website.

Method 6: Replace your DNS server (Use a different DNS)

The DNS server maps the URL or hostname of the website to its IP address. In the case of blocked websites, it is possible that the authorities or institutions involved have blocked the websites in their own DNS. In such cases, replacing your DNS with a public DNS will allow you to access blocked websites. Using GoogleDNS or OpenDNS will probably fix the problem. For it,

  • Click on the Wi-Fi icon on the taskbar and go to "Network and Internet Settings."
  • Select WiFi and click "Change adapter options."
  • Right click on your Internet connection (WiFi) and select properties.
  • Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4) and click Properties.
  • Check the radio button "Use the following DNS server addresses."
  • Enter in the Preferred DNS text box and in the Alternate DNS text box.
  • Click confirm to apply the changes.

Method 7: bypass censorship through extensions

A website can be of either of two types: static or dynamic. This method will work if the website you are trying to access is dynamic. Try to access websites like YouTube or Facebook through extensions. DotVPN, UltraSurf, and ZenMate are some awesome extensions that you should check out in order to access any blocked website for free and without any restrictions. In Chrome, to add extensions,

  • Open a new tab and click on "Apps".
  • Open the Web Store and find any extensions you want to add.
  • Click Add to Chrome.
  • You can enable or disable any extension by going to More tools> Extensions in the three-dot menu in the upper right corner of the browser window.

Method 8: Use a portable proxy browser

In cases where it is not even allowed to add extensions in the web browser, a portable web browser can be used that can be installed on the USB drive and also redirects all Internet traffic through a proxy address. To do this, you can directly use the KProxy browser which removes all restrictions from websites. You can also install a web browser like portable Firefox and add a proxy IP address in its proxy settings to access any blocked or restricted website.

These methods will allow you to access any website at any time and from anywhere in the world without any restrictions.
