What is the justification of a project?

The justification of a project are the reasons why a project is made, that is, the reasons that justify it.

The justification is both applicable to the company and to the research.

It really is a useful and necessary process, especially especially for the presentation and evaluation of our project.

How to justify a project?

Now I am going to explain to you in 4 simple steps how to make a justification.

Within that justification, the following questions must be raised:

  1. The need for that project. Why is it going to be done?
  2. Purpose of the project What is it going to be done for?
  3. What problems does it solve?
  4. The demands you have. how's gonna get done?

The real competition and the potential competition is if the project that we are going to carry out responds to a real or future need.

Logically these are questions that can serve as a guide to justify a project or research, but you do not have to write them, only the answers.

So you could say that justification is the answers to these questions.

Remember that it is very important that in this justification you define very well what are the general and specific objectives that you want to achieve, in this way the project will have more rigor and seriousness.

Characteristics that must also have a good justification:

  • Clear Focus. Define well the reasons for the project and why you are going to do it.
  • Real application. The project must have a real application and cover a clear need or demand.
  • Specific objective. Be very clear about what you want to achieve with the completion of the project or research.

What is the length of a justification?

In most cases it is a short document of 2 to 4 pages, but depending on the project or research, the document could exceed this size.

Let's say that there is no fixed extension of this justification and it can change and vary depending on the object of this.

Examples of a project justification

Due to my experience at the University, that is, in the education sector, whenever a degree is submitted for verification, the presentation of a report justifying the course is required.

A similar or similar report is even presented to the academic council when a new undergraduate or graduate degree is presented.

Any company or startup that requests a grant or performs an action with which to obtain assets to carry out the project needs to present a clear report detailing the justification for the project it wants to carry out.

We can also apply this justification to the creation of a new business or company, so it is definitely an exercise that I recommend you do.

Example of a justification for an educational project

The following example is extracted from the justification presented by the students in the Master's Final Project and where the extension of 2 to 3 pages is marked, and it contains the following characteristics:

  • The reader is explained what is the main topic of the work in hand.
  • The perspective or perspectives from which the study of this topic is approached.
  • Explanation of the context in which the phenomenon to be studied is framed.
  • The importance of the knowledge problem is justified taking into account its antecedents, why it was chosen and what it is intended to know.
  • It is advisable to end the introduction with a clear statement of what will be done in the project.

Example of a justification for an investigation

The first step would be to describe the reasons why conducting such an investigation is justified.

It is worth explaining the reasons for the choice of the research topic.

The researcher must explain the practical reasons and qualitative elements that have led him to choose this topic to develop it.

Other aspects to consider:

  • Social, political, cultural or academic relevance of the topic in clear terms.
  • Feasibility of the investigation and external support available.
  • Personal reasons why we have chosen the topic.

Criteria to justify an investigation:

  • Increase theoretical knowledge in certain areas of science.
  • For having elements to structure policies and strategies that allow the solution of certain problems.
  • Research projects.
  • University projects.

When preparing the justification we must answer the following questions:

  • What elements has led us to choose the theme that we present?
  • To what extent will our research offer new knowledge on a specific topic?
  • Why is the research being done?
  • What will your contributions be?
  • Who will it benefit?
